It is with great disappointment we need to let you know that unfortunately Greytown Sport & Leisure will be closing it’s doors due to a recent funding decision.

Most of you will know of our funding struggles. After many years battling over funding to support us, we were able to have this discussion brought to the Council table in November 2023. This was a real discussion about the importance of Sport & recreation in our community. We worked through this with the Council and fought hard for your voices to be heard and worked tirelessly to get the result to benefit the South Wairarapa community. Finally, there was some hope of an investment of 2 years of funding to be given to support sport & recreation in the entire South Wairarapa District through the Council funding. This was a contestable process and despite our continued effort, discussions and going through an Expression of Interest process, we were not the successful preferred applicant to deliver support to sport & recreation across the entire South Wairarapa District.

We have been supporting sport & recreation for 25 years within the Greytown Community and to be able to offer this district wide for all clubs and groups to benefit was always our primary goal through this process. Unfortunately, this is not the outcome we had hoped for. We would have loved the opportunity to continue what we believed to be valued work and really get the opportunity to deliver this district wide option.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support over the years, particularly our clubs over the past few months and the Greytown ward Councillors for their extended support over many years.

We will be working through this difficult process swiftly in the coming weeks and will update you all when more information comes to hand.
